What have you done NOW?

Thrift Store Thursday!

Last week I introduced the idea of Thrift Store Thursday. This week, we dive into adventure!!! There are many thrift stores in our area – from the old school Sally Ann (Salvation Army), to Value Village, and all the way to your local Christian Thrift Store (which has turned out to be quite the goldmine of cool stuff!).

Here are this week’s SuperDuper finds of awesomeness! Bronze pirate – HERE I COME!!!

Horse Maiden
I call this the Horse Maiden. Clearly there is some kind of bestiality being alluded to with this statue. Why is her dress so low? Why is she caressing the horse like that? And why is the horse bucking so high??? Made of the finest resin.
Horse statue
Another fine piece of equine-themed statuary! Look at the action captured in this beautiful piece. LOOKS like bronze, but don’t be fooled – it’s resin, too. Geronimo!
creepy poodle
Say hello to the creepiest purple poodle statue I’ve ever seen! Just gaze into those adorable eyes and feel the chills of terror spill up and down your spine. If you take this bad boy home, beware – it may try and kill you in your sleep. This is the “Chuckie” of dog statues.
Not-Bronze Pirate
SO CLOSE!!! This is a Not-Bronze Pirate. Equally ugly, but not nearly as heavy as a bronze pirate. I do appreciate the colours used and the incredibly bored stare of the aforementioned pirate (who may or may not be just a simple sailor). I’ll have to keep looking!
This absolute gem is definitely something you’d find in a thrift store. But wait! This handsome devil (and two of his equally adorable friends) are family heirlooms of mine and will NOT be donated to the local thrift store, much to the chagrin of anyone and everyone who comes to the house. They’d be snapped up INSTANTLY! My precious cheetahs…

Photo day: week 8!

Can you believe that I’ve been doing this for almost two months now? Exciting!

I have moved photo day to today and postponed my drawings til Friday because I’m a little behind. I have some goodies to post on Friday, but I didn’t want to sell my audience short by only posting one or two sketches. So photos it is!!!  I had several adventures in the last week that enabled me to get some interesting shots. Let me know which one you like best.

As always, don’t forget to click on the photos to enlarge them so you can get more detail 🙂

It came from the water
Some cool seaweed I found on a hike. It was growing out of some water that was coming out of a sketchy looking pipe, so I wouldn't be surprised if it DID get up and walk away!
ants on an apple
It always creeps me out to see a troop of ants crawling around on some discarded food.
horse's ass
Nothing like a horse butt in a storefront window to make your day! An interesting find. If I had bought this, I would display it ass-out too!
something growing on the leaves
I was on a night hike and caught sight of these little weird green things growing out of these leaves. I put my flashlight on it and took a no-flash photo and this is the result!
Gauges and knobs on a firetruck
While visiting the fire station, I snapped this photo of some fun knobs and gauges on the firetruck.

Caution: nudity

OK, so today is going to be a little random – what else is new…

Something we rarely see, and probably even more rarely think about – naked animals. No – I’m not talking about seeing a side of beef or a turkey at the butcher shop – I’m talking about live animals that have no fur/feathers/covering – you know, the ones we are used to seeing with something covering them! It’s kind of creepy to look at! There is definitely something weird/wrong about this whole concept. All of these images make me think this is how all creatures would look after a nuclear holocaust… I mean, we have seen people naked before, and things like Sphynx cats and Skinny pigs… but consider these naked animals:

Naked Chicken!
Naked Chicken! Creepy...
Hairless bear
Oh my goodness... this is what bears look like with no fur!?!?!
Naked Mole
Naked Mole - wouldn't want to come across this thing!
Naked Bunny
OK, so this bunny is only partly naked, but still!! CREEPY!
The Aye Aye
A creepy little nearly-naked primate! The Aye Aye
Furless Joey
A joey - a baby kangaroo... Apparently they are SUPPOSED to be furless until they are gestated properly and can leave mum's pouch. But still CREEPY!
Furless Rat
A furless rat - OK I have to admit this little guy is kinda cute..
Oriental Yeti
This is a hairless Oriental Yeti. They are like a bear with a kangaroo tail but sounds like a cat when they "mew" WEIRD
Harry the hairless horse
Horses can be hairless too! He seems to have a small mane
Hairless Chimp!
Here is a hairless chimp!
Peruvian Hairless Dog
Last but not least is the Peruvian hairless dog... He's handsome despite his creepy hairlessness! Put on the sunblock doggie!

Do you know of any other creepy hairless animals?
